What is it?

Electrostatic painting is a type of surface coating applied to natural or mill-finish aluminum profiles using application guns that spread negatively charged powder paint around a positively charged profile. When adhered, it is fused to the metal, giving it a homogeneous protective layer.

Before a profile can be coated with electrostatic paint, it first needs to undergo a pre-treatment:

  1. Increases the capacity of the paint to adhere to the metal surface.
  2. Provides the profile with corrosion protection.

After being painted, the profile goes to an oven where it is cured, leaving the coating ready for use. (Aluminum Extruders Council, 2018)

What is it for?
